Troubleshooting Access to the griffinneighbors Discussion Group on Yahoo!

Most likely, when you first became a member of the GNA, you were sent an email message inviting you to subscribe to our discussion group, called "griffinneighbors", on Yahoo!. You may already have received email messages addressed to griffinneighbors (at) yahoogroups (dot) com.

You probably know that email you send to griffinneighbors (at) yahoogroups (dot) com is automatically copied and sent to everyone in the discussion group. If you receive an email from this address, and click REPLY, your reply is sent back to everyone in the group.

However, even though you are a "subscriber" to the group, you may find you cannot access the web site for the group, which is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/griffinneighbors/. This is because, although you don't need a password to send email to or receive email from the group, you must have an email to access the web site on Yahoo!.

If, when you go to the web page at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/griffinneighbors/ and you receive a message which reads, "Sorry, this group is available to members ONLY," then it may be necessary for you to establish a free account on Yahoo!

I regret the process of setting up an account on Yahoo! is not especially simple. In part, this is intended to help foil spammers. Please read the instructions on each web page, as you complete the process of creating the account. You will be sent an email message by Yahoo! and will need to verify the account, in order to complete the process.

Here are the typical steps for setting up an account on Yahoo!

1. First, verify that you don't already have an account. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/griffinneighbors/

2. If you encounter a web page which reads, "Sorry, this group is available to members ONLY," please click on the "Sign in now" link, which is on the right side of that page.

3. Enter your Yahoo! User ID and Password. If you do not have a Yahoo! User ID and Password, click on the "Sign Up Now" link.

Or, if you know that you don't have a Yahoo! User ID, and want to go straight to the page where you can begin to set one up, click here.

4. On the Sign Up for Your Yahoo! ID page, give yourself a Yahoo! ID and a password. You will have the opportunity to set up an email account at yahoo (dot) com, but you need not do so in order to establish an account on Yahoo!

5. Provide Yahoo! with security questions and answers and your birthday.

6. When you are asked to provide an "Alternate E-mail" address, please use the same email address you have used to receive email from the griffinneighbors discussion group.

7. When you are done, you will be told to check the email address you provided as your "alternate e-mail" address. You will receive an email from Yahoo! which you will use in the next step.

8. When the activation email arrives from Yahoo! it will contain a link labeled "important". Click this link. Your web browser will take you to a web page on which you may enter the password you created in step #4 above.

9. Return to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/griffinneighbors/. If you encounter the web page which reads, "Sorry, this group is available to members ONLY," please click on the "Sign in now" link, which is on the right side of that page.

10. Enter your newly-created and verified Yahoo! User ID and Password.

You should now be logged in on the griffinneighbors group's web page.

If you encounter a page which reads, "None of the email addresses in your Account Info are available for this group membership," see if the Alternate E-mail address you provided is listed, with a "Verify" link to the right of it. If so, then click "Verify" and continue as instructed on the next web page you see.

You are encouraged to establish an account on Yahoo! This will enable you to log in to our discussion group's web site at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/griffinneighbors/. From there, you can view an archive of past messages sent among members of the discussion group, view and edit our calendar, post and retrieve files, respond to and initiate online polls and the other web-based features which caused us to select the Yahoo! site for our discussion group.
